AUTHENTIC HOMESTORIES
from around the globe
- celebrating the beauty of diversity in our global village
- our intention being for this to be a source of inspiration/interest discovering what makes a house a home in different locations, cultures and lifestyles
- und wir bitten um Verständnis, dass es ein Mischmasch aus Englisch und Deutsch sein wird – genau wie wir als Familie im echten Leben zwischen die beiden Sprachen hin und her hüpfen!
25th of January 2025 was the date to start the journey – we started by zooming over to my, Tracey’s, homeland South Africa and into the home of my creative cousin Lauren (affectionately called cuz) in Ballito | Durban. In February, we visited Barbara in northern Germany and in March we returned down south again to Africa. In April we visited the Keer Homestead in Canada, and now in May we meander over to the English countryside | Kent to learn more about the home of friends of mine from student days in South Africa. In June, we were back to the eastern cape of South Africa where I grew up, to discover the work in progress of Ilse and Hilton’s new home project at the coast. In July we were in the United Kingdom once again, south west of London in Surrey visiting a new development. In August we revisit South Africa, this time returning to Ballito in Natal again…

Turning the ugly duckling into a swan – Kent | UK

My favourite things – Plett | South Africa
Downscaling to a semi-detatched cottage in a retirement village in Plettenberg Bay, embarking on the phase as a pensioner and taking pleasure in being surrounded by some of one’s favourite things…
Design für das alltägliche Glück | Norddeutschland
Das geerbte Haus aus den späten 1960er Jahren wurde durch unkonventionelle Ideen, viel Farbe und modernes Design zu neuem Leben erweckt…
Space for 4 – Ballito, Durban | South Africa
The phrase at the front door “Tus Nau” is an Irish saying for new beginnings… fitting for the relocation of a young family from Johannesburg to the Natal north coast.
